Option 1:  The setting of “Thank You, M’am” is Harlem, New York City.  Type a one page research paper explaining how and when Harlem was established as an African-American community.   Discuss the social and economic transformation of Harlem over the years.  How is the setting different today than it was in "Thank You M'am?"

Option 2:  Langston Hughes, the author of "Thank You M'am," is a significant person in history.  Type a one page research paper describing his contributions to society.  Also, describe the Harlem Renaissance and the types of art forms popular during this period.  Explain how Langston Hughes' works fit into this historical setting.

Comic Book Instructions for Class on Friday, May 31st 2013

Task:  Create a comic book using the plot of your own story chain OR the plot of “The Monsters are Due on Maple Street.”  You can use either Microsoft Word or PowerPoint.  The comic book must include the following:
  •   At least 6 pages  *each page must include an illustration and a caption
  •  Speech bubbles for your characters when necessary
  • At least 6 words from the story chain list
  • 3 uses of onomatopoeia
  • Scenes that effectively tell the complete story, including a resolution
  • Use correct grammar and punctuation

You will turn in your assignment using Edmodo.  There is an assignment created called “Comic Book.”  Name your file lastname_comic book before turning it in as an attachment.
